For a number of years—beginning with my purchase of XO based on a Rolling Stone recommendation I read at age 16—I could unequivocally say Elliott Smith was my favorite musician. Everyone has their shocking rock-suicide, and Elliott Smith’s—five years ago today—was mine. In memory—and because it still seems way to many people I know have never heard any of Smith’s music, or have only heard what’s on the Miss Misery soundtrack—a few of my favorite Smith songs, for your listening pleasure:
